Brief Early History: |

The area where Huntertown is now located was a heavily forested area originally settled in 1837 by William T. Hunter. This first settlement was built in a small area which was naturally clear of forest. This area, known as the "opening", was very popular for the building of temporary homes while sites were cleared for permanent ones. The building of the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad in the area led to the organization and platting of what was already an existing village in 1869. Huntertown was incorporated in 1967. |
