ACP's Philosophy

Places citizens at the heart of planning - through meaningful public participation.
The heart of the firm's methodology - linking public participation and strategic implementation - is based on nearly 20 years of expertise in community visioning. ACP uses public involvement as the foundation to develop plans that reflect a community's vision, to gain support from a broad constituency, and lead to implementation.

Gets things done effectively - through a mix of intuitive and informed activities.
ACP has created and refined a method consisting of a series of carefully designed and facilitated public meetings with intensive interaction among citizens, stakeholders, staff and consultants. The meetings are designed to integrate the intuitive aspects of visioning with technical information and foster consensus on items such as land use alternatives, goals, objectives, strategies, and design solutions.

Conveys ideas with clarity - through effective visual and verbal communication techniques.
ACP uses techniques ranging from a modified form of the nominal group technique to a proprietary goal writing methodology. They include visual techniques - such as Future Vision Assessment Surveys, Good Places Bad Places, and the Building Block exercise - designed to engage participants in an intuitive decision making process.

Facilitates implementation - through ownership of results and continuity in how communities make decisions.
ACP approaches every project with implementation in mind at the outset. The ACP visioning methodology has proven to be a catalyst for building public consensus and setting public policy framework for development. ACP creates plans that are responsive to the community, meet locally defined needs and are implementable through broad-based partnership of the public, private, and civic sectors.
