Brief Early History:

Grabill began in 1902 as a station built on the Wabash Railroad line which went from Fort Wayne to Detroit.  In the very beginning, the station was referred to as East Maysville after the town of Maysville (now Harlan) but residents in the area protested the name.  A sign bearing the name Grabill appeared on the front of the station one day and was kept.  In February 1902 the first plat was laid out by Joseph Grabill.  In August 1902, the first Post Office opened with Joseph Grabill as the first postmaster.  Grabill was incorporated in 1912.  Joseph Grabill was very involved in the development of the town until his death in 1959 at the age of 93.
